Being You!
I call this Being You because I’m reminded of something I read years ago by A.C. Ping.
Ping is/was an author, scuba divemaster, futures trader, a teacher, a corporate consultant, and a few more things I just can’t recall. He wrote a small piece on “Being.” I want to give him credit as I begin to get into what his/my take is on being happy and pursuing your dreams.
Being happy and pursuing your dreams is not the run-of-the-mill path to follow in life.
Mostly, people start off with lots of dreams, then make lots of compromises, get caught up in situations they didn’t intend, then just go along for the ride, making the most of it.
Don’t believe that pursuing dreams is a bed of roses, though. Get serious, accept that the challenge of pursuing freedom will be met with aversion from many people along the road.
Jealously in others may drive them to do and say negative things. Anger at the self for failing to pursue life passions can be a very destructive thing. Pursuing the things that are most important to you in life, and not alienating everyone along the way, requires compassion and the ability to grow. Selfish pursuit of goals will only limit us to an egocentric view of the world, and this is where balance comes in.
Balance, so you can determine who you are “being” while you are “doing.” This takes time and practice. However, there’s no point being successful and world famous if you are a jerk, because it’s almost guaranteed that you’ll be unhappy, and there’s the catch. Being unhappy would defeat the whole purpose of the exercise. Ya’ got that? Good!
Get serious but be kind, pursue your goals but embrace unity and oneness. Just BE!

…. When I reflect on getting serious, taking action toward one’s dreams and “Being,” I’m reminded of what Teddy Roosevelt said in one of his many inspiring speeches.
“It is not the critic that counts, not the one who points out how the strong man stumbled or how the doer of deeds might have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena; whose face is marred with sweat and dust and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs and comes up short again; who knows the great enthusiasms, the great devotions and spends himself in a worthy cause and who, if he fails, at least fails while bearing greatly so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who know neither victory nor defeat.”
